Elciego.

Elciego is a small wine town in Rioja Alavesa, known for the titanium-clad Hotel Marqués de Riscal, designed by Frank Gehry and built beside a bodega that has made wine since 1858. The curved metal panels of the hotel catch the light above the older stone town, where narrow lanes climb past the parish church toward vineyard views. Marqués de Riscal is one of the oldest wineries in Rioja, and its cellars and vineyards can be visited alongside the Gehry building. Several smaller family bodegas in the town center continue a winemaking tradition that predates the famous hotel by generations. Vineyards surround Elciego on every side, stretching toward the Sierra de Cantabria, which rises as a backdrop to the whole of Rioja Alavesa. Paths lead out from the town through the vines toward neighboring wine villages, and the mix of ultramodern architecture and stone houses gives Elciego a presence unusual among Rioja's wine towns.
