What Slowfoxes is
For most of my life, travelling was whatever fitted into a holiday. So I rushed: through cities, through regions, sometimes through whole countries, adding as much as I could to a checklist. At some point I realised it was neither sustainable nor much fun. There is more magic in staying somewhere longer and finding ways to enjoy it, with all its beauties and all its downsides.
That is not an argument for returning to the same place every year. There is so much to discover in Europe that moving around and planning new trips is part of the philosophy too. What changes is the pace, not the ambition.
What counts as a slow destination
A place earns its spot if you can reach it without a car, there is enough within walking distance to fill more than a day, something is made or celebrated locally, and it does not empty out when the season turns.
So you will not find every famous town here, but you will find places you have never heard of. Both are the point.
What is in the catalogue
Destinations that pass that test, plus the regions, routes, regional dishes and local festivals that connect them.

How the pages are built
Every destination page has the same shape: an introduction, month-by-month weather, things worth doing, nearby places, and booking links where they exist.
Photographs are Creative Commons, credited to the photographer. Images of regional dishes are generated with AI, because free photographs of local food barely exist in a usable form. Some of the writing is AI-assisted as well — fact-checked, and mostly curated by hand.
Who is behind it
Slowfoxes is run by one person — me, Julia, based in Berlin. An email to hello@slowfoxes.com reaches the person who can actually change the page.
