Lapuebla

Lapuebla de Labarca is a small walled village in Rioja Alavesa, its medieval stone ramparts still enclosing the old town almost completely. Narrow cobbled streets lead between stone houses to a network of underground wine cellars beneath the village. Several family-run bodegas still work from these cellars, opening their doors for tastings of Rioja Alavesa reds. Outside the walls, vineyards spread across gentle slopes toward the Sierra de Cantabria. The village keeps close to its agricultural calendar, with pruning through winter, new growth in spring, and a harvest in September that fills the streets with activity. Inside the walls, the same streets and cellars remain in daily use — a lived-in village where medieval stone is simply the backdrop to ordinary routines.
