Schützen am Gebirge is a small wine village on the eastern slopes of the Leitha hills in Burgenland, Austria. Its vineyards fall within the Leithaberg DAC appellation, producing both red and white wines. Wine cellars line the village edges, many still used by local growers to store and age their harvest. Autumn brings the harvest, when presses run through the village and new wine appears on local tasting lists. Walking paths climb from the village into the hills, giving wide views over the vineyards toward Lake Neusiedl and the flat plain beyond. Local kitchens build their menus around the wine, pairing regional dishes with a glass of Leithaberg red or white. The village cellars and vineyards set the rhythm of daily life, from pruning in early spring through to the autumn harvest.
