Versoix sits on the northern shore of Lake Geneva, between Geneva and Nyon, in the canton of Geneva. In the 1780s, the French crown planned a new port town here to rival Geneva's trade, laying out wide streets and a harbour before the project was abandoned after a few years. The grid of that unfinished plan still shapes parts of the town today.
The lakefront is the heart of Versoix: a marina filled with sailing boats, a shingle beach, and a promenade along the water, with views across to the Jura mountains.
Behind the waterfront, the old village keeps narrow streets and small squares lined with cafés and shops, with a parish church anchoring the centre. Vineyards and orchards stretch into the hills above, part of the farmland patchwork around Geneva.
