Ronda.

Ronda sits on a limestone plateau in the Serranía de Ronda, split in two by El Tajo gorge, a cut in the rock nearly 120 meters deep. The Puente Nuevo bridge crosses the gorge at its narrowest point, joining the old Moorish quarter, La Ciudad, with the newer Mercadillo district that grew up around the bullring. That bullring, the Real Maestranza, dates to the 18th century and is among the oldest in Spain, with a museum tracing the history of bullfighting and the families who helped shape its modern form. Wandering La Ciudad brings up narrow lanes, the Arab baths built during the Moorish period, and views over the gorge from the Alameda del Tajo gardens. The dramatic setting drew writers and filmmakers through the 20th century, and it remains a place where the landscape does most of the talking. Vineyards on the surrounding hills produce wines under the Sierras de Málaga designation, giving the area a second identity beyond the gorge and the bridge. The mountains beyond town hold trails that climb from the plateau into pine forest and bare rock.
