Pfaffstätten sits in the Thermenregion, the warm, hilly wine district south of Vienna where Zweigelt and Grüner Veltliner have grown for generations. Vineyards climb the slopes above the village, broken here and there by orchards and patches of woodland. The village core keeps a quiet, rural character, with wine-grower houses lining narrow streets and cellar doors opening onto small courtyards.
Several growers in Pfaffstätten run their own Heuriger, the seasonal wine tavern typical of this part of Austria, serving the current vintage alongside simple cold dishes. Paths lace the hillsides through the vines. Each autumn, harvest brings activity to the vineyards, and the first young wine of the season appears on local tables soon after.
Pfaffstätten shares its wine landscape with neighbours such as Gumpoldskirchen and Baden bei Wien, but keeps a smaller, more agricultural feel, with the vineyard itself remaining its main feature.
