Appledore sits where the rivers Taw and Torridge meet, on the North Devon coast. The village keeps the shape of its working past: narrow lanes lined with cottages painted in blues, pinks and yellows, built by families who fished, built ships and traded from this spot for generations. A shipyard still works the waterfront, building and repairing vessels in a tradition that runs through the village's history.
Along the quay, independent galleries and craft shops occupy old cottages and buildings, drawing visitors with work inspired by the estuary. Across the water, the dunes of Braunton Burrows and the sands at Instow are visible. Appledore's pubs serve local ales and seafood, part of a maritime identity still woven into daily life here.
