Bodiam is a small village in East Sussex, built around a moated castle that dates from the late 14th century. The castle rises straight out of a wide, still moat, its stone walls and round corner towers mirrored in the water on calm days. Inside, spiral stairs climb to wall-walks and towers that look out over the moat and the fields beyond.
Outside the castle grounds, Bodiam keeps the character of a quiet Sussex village, with hedged lanes running down to the River Rother. The heritage Rother Valley Railway operates steam and vintage diesel trains along a preserved section of line near the village, adding a second layer of history to the area. Footpaths along the riverbank give open views back toward the castle walls.
