Altendorf.

Altendorf lies on the southern shore of the Obersee, the upper reach of Lake Zurich, in the canton of Schwyz. Across the water, the old town and castle of Rapperswil mark the far shore, giving the village a wide, open view over the lake. A shoreline path runs along the water's edge, flat and easy, with benches set at intervals for watching boats and swans pass.

Behind the village, trails climb into wooded hills, linking Altendorf to neighbouring Wollerau and the quieter lanes above the lake. Boats can be rented right on the lakefront, a straightforward way to reach open water and look back at the shoreline from a different angle.

Life in Altendorf keeps a local rhythm: small cafés near the water, a lakeside park shaded by old trees, and light that shifts through the day across the Obersee. Spring brings blossom along the shore path, autumn turns the hillside woods gold, and the lake stays calm enough for boating through much of the warmer season.
