Saanenmöser sits above Gstaad in the Bernese Oberland, at 1,279 metres, with open views across the Saanen valley. The village keeps a plainer, older character than its well-known neighbour below: wooden chalets with deep eaves and stacked firewood line the road, and the surrounding meadows stay open rather than built over. In winter, the Gstaad ski area extends up from here, with cross-country tracks laid along the valley floor. In summer, the same slopes turn into hiking ground, with marked paths climbing toward Rellerli and the ridges above. The air stays cooler than in the valley towns, and the views open across the peaks on the far side of the valley. Saanenmöser has none of the boutiques or crowds of Gstaad; it is a working mountain village first and a resort second, and that order shows in the quiet pace of daily life.
