Marstrand.

Marstrand sits on a small island in the Kattegat, off the Bohuslän coast, and has built its identity around the sea. Wooden houses in white and soft colours climb the rocky slopes above the harbour, a layout shaped by the town's long history as a trading and fishing port before it turned toward sailing and leisure in the 19th century. Carlsten Fortress, begun in the 17th century, stands on the island's highest point and still dominates the skyline, its walls visible from the water long before the harbour comes into view.

Sailing sets the town's rhythm. The harbour fills with yachts through the warmer months, and Marstrand hosts one of Sweden's best-known regattas, drawing sailors and spectators to the waterfront each summer. Narrow streets behind the quay hold wooden merchant houses, seafood restaurants, and small shops, while paths along the island's edge cross bare granite rock to open views over the archipelago. Nearby islands and skerries invite walking or swimming, and the coastline beyond the harbour keeps a quieter, more open character than the busy quay itself.
