Viveiro sits on an estuary on Galicia's northern coast, inside walls raised in the Middle Ages. Three of the original gates still stand, opening onto stone squares and narrow streets that lead to churches built in the Romanesque style. Behind the walls, the old town keeps a working rhythm, with market stalls and seafood restaurants.
Across the water, the beach at Covas runs long and sandy, with smaller coves tucked along the coast nearby.
