Pontedeume.

Pontedeume sits where the Eume River widens into its tidal estuary on the coast of A Coruña province, Galicia. The old town climbs from the waterfront in narrow stone streets and arcaded houses, with stepped lanes leading up to the Torres dos Andrade, the surviving tower of a fortress built by the Andrade family, once among the most powerful lords in medieval Galicia. A long bridge over the estuary gave the town its name — Ponte do Eume, bridge of the Eume — and still crosses the water today.

The town lies on the Camino Inglés, the pilgrim route from the northern ports toward Santiago de Compostela, and its old quarter is part of that path. Upriver, the Eume cuts through one of the better-preserved stretches of Atlantic oak and laurel forest in Galicia, protected within the Fragas do Eume natural park. Along the harbour, fish markets and taverns serve shellfish and other catch from the Galician coast, and a weekly market brings produce from the surrounding parishes into the main square.
