Cannara.

Cannara is a small town in the Umbrian valley below Assisi, set among flat farmland. The fields here grow the cipolla di Cannara, a sweet red onion celebrated each September at the Festa della Cipolla, when stalls selling onion-based dishes and local wine line the streets to music and crowds. Outside the festival, the pace slows again. Tractors move between vegetable rows, and the small historic centre holds a few churches and stone houses along narrow lanes. Several family-run estates around town grow grapes alongside the onions and open their cellars for tastings, often paired with simple farm meals. The valley floor is flat and easy to cross on foot or by bicycle. Cannara keeps close to its agricultural roots, with the onion festival as its one loud moment in an otherwise steady farming calendar.
