Panzano in Chianti sits above the Conca d'Oro, a wide natural amphitheater of vineyards regarded as one of the finest spots for Sangiovese grapes in the Chianti Classico zone. Many family-run cellars open for tastings. The village is compact, its narrow stone streets climbing toward the old fortified center. Its best-known address is the Antica Macelleria Cecchini, the butcher shop of Dario Cecchini, where bistecca alla Fiorentina and other cuts of beef draw attention well beyond Tuscany. Olive groves spread across the hills alongside the vines, and trattorias on the main street build their menus around local beef and wine. Paths through woodland and farmland lace the countryside around the village, opening onto views of cypress-lined roads, stone farmhouses, and the smaller wine villages scattered across the neighboring hills of Chianti.
