Gavorrano.

Gavorrano is a small town in the Maremma, the stretch of southern Tuscany known for open countryside and a quieter pace than the hill towns further north. For much of the twentieth century it was a mining center, and the old works still stand, now part of a park that documents the industry and its workers. The historic center, Gavorrano Vecchia, climbs a hill above the newer town and keeps a medieval layout, with narrow lanes and the remains of a fortress at the top. Around the town, vineyards and olive groves cover the lower slopes, part of the wider Maremma wine area that also includes Morellino di Scansano. Local restaurants serve Tuscan dishes built on simple ingredients: bread, olive oil, wild boar, and seasonal vegetables. Paths through the surrounding hills link Gavorrano to nearby villages and open onto views across the countryside. The combination of industrial heritage and rural tradition gives the town a character of its own within the Maremma.
