Madruzzo is a small wine-growing comune in Trentino, set among the vineyards of the Valle dei Laghi, named for the lakes scattered across it. Its slopes grow Nosiola, a white grape characteristic of this part of Trentino, used for dry wines and for the dessert wine Vino Santo. Above the vines stands Castel Madruzzo, once the seat of the Madruzzo family, its walls and tower still looking out over the surrounding countryside.
Around the village, stone farmhouses and wine cellars line narrow roads between the vineyards, and many growers open their cellars directly for tastings. Small trattorias in the hamlets serve Trentino dishes built around local wine, polenta and mountain cheeses. Madruzzo sits among one of Trentino's lesser-known wine landscapes, close to the shores of Lake Toblino and the orchards of the valley floor.
