San Vito Lo Capo lies on the coast of northwestern Sicily, where a wide crescent of white sand meets clear turquoise water. Monte Monaco rises directly behind the beach, sheltering the town in a natural bay that gives the coastline an almost tropical feel, unusual for Sicily. The old town's narrow streets lead toward the seafront and the Sanctuary of San Vito.
The Zingaro Nature Reserve begins just along the coast, protecting a stretch of cliffs, coves, and dry Mediterranean scrub. Trails follow the shoreline through the reserve and reach small bays accessible only on foot or by boat.
San Vito Lo Capo's kitchens carry the mark of centuries of exchange across the Mediterranean: couscous appears on menus alongside grilled fish and Sicilian pasta, a legacy of Arab influence on the island's western coast. Each September, the town fills for the Cous Cous Fest, celebrating cous cous cooking from across the Mediterranean.
