Angera.

Angera sits on the shores of Lake Maggiore, in Lombardy. Its skyline is marked by the Rocca di Angera, a medieval castle built on a rocky spur above the lake and held for centuries by the Borromeo family. Inside, frescoed halls fill rooms once used by the fortress's residents.

Below the castle, a lakeside promenade runs along the water, lined with cafés and small boat landings. Local trattorias serve lake fish and Lombard classics such as risotto. Market stalls and artisan shops open in the old streets around the main square.

The surrounding countryside rises gently into wooded hills, crossed by paths that link Angera to smaller villages along the lake. Spring brings wildflowers to these trails; autumn turns the woods copper and gold. Across the water, the Alps form a backdrop that changes with the light through the seasons.
