Volastra.

Volastra sits on a ridge above the Cinque Terre coastline, surrounded by the terraced vineyards that produce Sciacchetrà, the region's sweet dessert wine made from sun-dried grapes. The village is smaller and quieter than the five coastal settlements below it, with stone houses clustered around a parish church and narrow lanes opening onto views of vines stepping down toward the sea. Many of the terraces are still worked by hand, following dry-stone walls built generations ago to hold the thin soil on steep slopes. Wine cellars in and around the village press and age the Sciacchetrà grapes alongside the drier white wines of the Cinque Terre. The air carries salt from the sea and the scent of Mediterranean scrub growing between the vine rows, from wild rosemary to low broom bushes. Local trattorias serve the wine alongside anchovies, focaccia, and pesto made with Ligurian basil. Compared with Manarola or Vernazza below it, Volastra keeps a slower rhythm, with fewer visitors and a closer view of the agricultural work that shapes the whole Cinque Terre landscape.
