Aerzen is a quiet community in the Hameln-Pyrmont district of Lower Saxony, set in the gentle green hills of the Weser Uplands between Hameln and the Pyrmont spa town. The community is best known for Schlosshotel Münchhausen, a magnificent five-star castle hotel occupying a Weser Renaissance palace commissioned in 1570 by Hilmar von Münchhausen. Carefully restored and reopened as a luxury hotel, the castle is surrounded by classically designed English parkland and offers two restaurants, a spa and 68 elegantly furnished rooms within the original historic fabric. The Weser Uplands are excellent walking country, and the Fairy Tale Route (Deutsche Märchenstraße) passes nearby, connecting legendary sites associated with the Brothers Grimm tales. Hameln, the town of the Pied Piper legend, is just 15 km north.
