Ahorn.

Castles

Ahorn is a small municipality in the Coburg district of Upper Franconia, a few kilometres south of the historic ducal town of Coburg. The village is quiet and agricultural in character, with the landscape shaped by rolling fields, patches of woodland and farmsteads typical of this part of Franconia. Schloss Ahorn, the village's four-sided Renaissance castle dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, served for centuries as an administrative centre for the Coburg territory. Today it houses the local administration and is not a hotel, but the castle and its setting are worth seeing. The main appeal of visiting Ahorn is the combination of the rural Franconian landscape with easy access to Coburg, one of the best-preserved ducal towns in Germany, and the Coburg Fortress, one of the largest and most impressive hilltop fortresses in the country.
