Villeneuve-de-la-Raho sits among the vineyards of Roussillon, a short distance from Perpignan, where the land flattens into warm, sun-baked plains. The village grew around its reservoir, a wide man-made lake that draws walkers and birdwatchers to its shallows and shoreline paths. Vines cover the surrounding hills, producing the reds and rosés of the Roussillon wine region, and a handful of small domaines open their cellars for tastings. The old village centre keeps a working, unhurried rhythm, with narrow streets and a quiet, everyday atmosphere.
