Port-Vendres.

Port-Vendres is a working fishing port on the Mediterranean coast, close to the Spanish border. Trawlers land anchovies and sardines each morning, supplying the harbor market and the seafood restaurants along the quay. The town has kept its Catalan character in its pastel façades and narrow, sloping streets, and daily harbor work still sets the rhythm of the place. Above the water, old fortifications recall its history as a naval and trading port.

South of the harbor, the Banyuls vineyards climb steep terraces that fall almost to the sea, producing a sweet fortified wine alongside drier reds grown on the same slopes. Coastal paths lead from Port-Vendres along the cliffs, passing small rocky coves good for swimming.

Fishing and wine still set the pace of life here, visible in the harbor at dawn and in the vineyards rising just behind the town.
