Lectoure sits on a narrow ridge above the Gers valley, its ramparts and winding streets following the shape of the hill beneath them. The town's Roman past has left traces in its foundations, close to the cathedral of Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais. Around the town, the Gascon countryside rolls out in vineyards and farmland, and several wine estates nearby open their cellars for tastings.

The thermal spa has long been a place for rest and treatment, and sits apart from the busier rhythm of market days. On market mornings, stalls along the main square fill with produce from the surrounding farms: garlic, melons, duck, and armagnac among them. The town's bistros build their menus around these same local ingredients, serving Gascon cooking shaped by the land around it.

From the ramparts, the view opens across the Gers hills, changing with the light through the day — a reminder of why this ridge was settled long before the streets that now climb it took shape.
