Blacé sits among vineyards in the Beaujolais wine region of eastern France, where Gamay grapes grow on gentle slopes around the village. The place itself is small and unassuming, built around a few streets of stone houses and a handful of wine cooperatives that serve the surrounding hamlets.
Several houses in Blacé keep old granite cellars below ground, where wine was traditionally stored and aged. Some of the cooperatives still use these spaces today, and many open for tastings of Beaujolais wines made from grapes grown nearby.
Paths lead out from the village through the vineyards, climbing gently toward wooded hills that mark the edge of the Beaujolais countryside. Life in Blacé follows the vineyard calendar, quiet for much of the year and busiest around the September harvest, when growers bring in the grapes and the cooperatives fill with activity.
