Andermatt.

Andermatt sits in a high Alpine basin in the canton of Uri, where the Gotthard, Furka, Oberalp, and Susten passes converge. For centuries the village lived from travelers crossing these routes, and its stone houses and narrow lanes still carry that pass-town character. The Schöllenen Gorge, just outside the village, cuts a dramatic path through granite cliffs, spanned by the Devil's Bridge, a crossing tied to old legends of the region.

In recent years Andermatt has grown into a year-round Alpine resort. The SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun links the village to ski terrain stretching toward Sedrun, while new hotels have been built alongside older farmhouses. Above the village, alpine meadows and larch forests open into hiking country, with trails climbing toward the Oberalp and Gotthard passes.

The surrounding peaks and pass roads give Andermatt a landscape of granite ridges and glacier-fed streams, with open pasture stretching above the tree line. Snow covers the valley much of the year, giving Andermatt a quiet, high-mountain character even as the village itself has modernized around it.
