Cheyres sits on the southern shore of Lake Neuchâtel, in the Fribourg region of Switzerland, where vineyards and farmland run down to the water. The village is small and unhurried, built around a harbour where small boats can be rented for days spent on open water. The shoreline draws birdwatchers, and the lakeside path is good walking for anyone with binoculars and patience.

Behind the village, fields stretch inland, part of the area's long farming tradition. Footpaths follow the lake toward neighbouring villages, and trails inland climb gently through vineyard and pasture. The pace here follows the lake itself: still water in early morning, open water once the wind rises in the afternoon, and quiet harbours in between.

Cheyres is a place for watching birds, fishing from the bank, renting a boat, or sitting by the water while the lake changes through the day.
