Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón sits in La Rioja Alta, built around a medieval castle that now works as a hotel. Stone houses and narrow, cobbled streets run down toward the Tirón river, with vineyards covering the hills around the village. Underneath the streets, local families carved underground cellars into the rock for ageing and storing wine. The castle overlooks both the village and the vineyards, giving Cuzcurrita a visible link between its medieval past and its wine-growing present. Away from the larger bodegas of nearby Haro, the village keeps a quieter, working pace tied closely to its vineyards. It makes a compact stop in La Rioja Alta's wine country, small enough to cover on foot.
