Sant Martí Sarroca sits on a low hill in the Penedès, surrounded by the vineyards that give the region its name. At the top of the village stands a fortified complex of castle and church, visible across the vines below. Narrow streets wind up toward it, past stone houses.
The village is a working part of Catalonia's wine country. Family-run cellars press grapes that go into still wines and Cava, and several open their doors for tastings. Vineyards stretch in every direction, turning gold in autumn when the grape harvest is underway.
Below the castle, the lower village keeps a quieter, everyday pace, with houses built close along shaded lanes. Paths lead out from the edges of the village into the surrounding countryside, tracing the low hills and vine rows that shape this corner of Penedès.
