Sesimbra sits on a sheltered bay on the Setúbal coast, its harbour still built around fishing rather than tourism. Brightly painted boats bring in the day's catch each morning, sold at the quay before reaching the grilled-fish tables along the seafront. Above the town, a hilltop castle looks out over red rooftops and the Atlantic, its walls set high enough to watch the coast for miles in both directions.

The beach curves close to the old town, backed by low white houses and cafés that fill with locals as much as travellers passing through. The cliffs and pine woods of the Arrábida range lie nearby, with trails dropping steeply toward hidden coves. Inland, the countryside around Azeitão turns to vineyards and orchards, feeding the wine and cheese sold in Sesimbra's markets.

Life here keeps its own rhythm: fishermen mending nets through the morning, a quiet midday lull, then the harbour filling again at dusk as boats return and restaurants light up for the evening catch.
