Hösbach is a market community in the Aschaffenburg district of Lower Franconia, sitting at the edge of the Spessart, one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Germany. The town itself is a pleasant residential community, but it serves as an excellent base for exploring the Spessart landscape and its remarkable architectural centrepiece: Mespelbrunn Castle, a perfectly preserved Renaissance moated castle hidden in the depths of the Elsava valley just a few kilometres away. Mespelbrunn is one of the most-photographed castles in Germany, set on an island in a forest lake with a mirror-like reflection. The Spessart forest offers excellent hiking and cycling, and Aschaffenburg, a handsome Bavarian town with a magnificent Renaissance palace, is just 10 km west.
