Cruseilles is a small market town in Haute-Savoie, positioned between Annecy and Geneva in a landscape of meadows and forested ridges. The town has traces of a 13th-century castle, now mostly ruined, that once controlled the route between the two cities. What draws visitors today is the extraordinary Pont de la Caille, a pair of suspension bridges — one 19th century and one modern — spanning a deep gorge of the Usses river 150 metres below. The surrounding area is good walking country, with the Montagne des Princes and the slopes of Mount Salève nearby. The Lac des Dronieres on the edge of town is popular with families in summer. Cruseilles itself is a working local town rather than a tourist destination, which gives it an honest, unpretentious character.
