Wies.

Wies is a small village surrounded by vineyards that produce Schilcher, a pale rosé wine made from the local Blauer Wildbacher grape. Vines cover the hills around the village, and small wine taverns, known locally as Buschenschanken, pour this wine alongside simple dishes from their own kitchens, usually bread and cured meats. The rhythm of the village follows the vineyard calendar, from spring pruning through the September harvest, when many taverns open for the new vintage. Marked paths run through the vine rows and into the surrounding hills. Away from the vineyards, the village keeps a plain, rural character, with farmhouses, vegetable gardens, and narrow lanes shaped more by agriculture than by tourism. The wine itself is light and crisp, often drunk young.
