Sankt Nikolai im Sausal sits among the steep, forested hills of the Sausal, a wine-growing range in Styria. Vineyards climb the slopes in narrow terraces, broken up by patches of woodland and orchard, and the village itself stays small and quiet, with farmhouses and family-run wineries scattered along the ridge roads.
