Prellenkirchen is a small wine village in the far eastern corner of Lower Austria, close to the border with Slovakia. It lies within the Carnuntum wine region, known for red and white wines grown in the warm Pannonian climate. Vineyards spread across open, flat countryside on the edge of the Danube lowlands, giving the area a wide, open character distinct from Austria's more mountainous wine country.
The village itself stays low-key: a cluster of houses around a parish church, surrounded by vines and open fields. Several family-run wineries pour tastings directly from the cellar, and the quiet lanes between the plots make for easy walking or cycling. Away from the main tourist routes through Lower Austria, daily life here still follows the vineyard calendar more than any visitor schedule.
The nearby Slovak border gives the surrounding countryside a mixed, borderland character.
