Langenlois lies in the Kamptal, a wine valley in Lower Austria known for Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. It is the country's largest wine town by vineyard area, with growers working slopes that rise from the Kamp river toward the Heiligenstein, a ridge whose stony soil is credited with some of the region's finest Riesling.

Centuries of winemaking have left a network of cellars beneath the town, cut into the ground and still used for storage and tastings. Above ground, this history sits next to LOISIUM, a wine experience centre designed by architect Steven Holl, set among the vineyard rows.

Traditional Heurige taverns serve new wine alongside simple food, and estate tasting rooms range from small family cellars to architect-designed spaces. The town's streets and the vineyard paths around it show wine growing as both a working craft and a force that has shaped the landscape, with old cellar traditions and current wine architecture sitting close together.
