Enzersdorf an der Fischa is a wine village in Lower Austria's Carnuntum region, set between Vienna and the Roman ruins of Carnuntum. Vineyards around the village grow the red grapes that define Carnuntum, mainly Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch, on warm, flat land that stretches toward the Fischa river. Beneath the village houses, old stone cellars keep wine cool through the year, a tradition still kept by family wineries alongside newer producers who also work with international grape varieties. The Fischa itself is a modest river, winding through fields and small stands of forest. In the village taverns, known locally as Heurigen, farmers and wine drinkers share the same long tables, and the atmosphere stays relaxed even during the region's autumn wine festivals.
