Monte La Reina sits among the vineyards of the Toro wine region, in the Zamora province of Castilla y León. The village is small and quiet, surrounded by rolling vine-covered hills typical of the area. Tempranillo, known locally as Tinta de Toro, grows in sandy, clay-heavy soils that have supported wine production here for generations.
The village follows the rhythm of the vineyards: pruning in winter, growth through spring and summer, harvest in September. Local bodegas open their cellars for tastings, pouring the dense, full-bodied reds the Toro denomination is known for, often alongside simple plates of cured meats and cheese. Paths through the vines lead into the wider countryside, where small wine villages are scattered across a landscape shaped almost entirely by viticulture.
