Viseu is a historic city in central Portugal and the capital of the Dão wine region. Granite marks the city as much as the vineyards around it: the historic center's streets and squares carry the same pale stone found in the surrounding hills. At its heart stands the Sé de Viseu, the city's cathedral, facing a square lined with baroque facades. Nearby, the Grão Vasco Museum houses work by the Portuguese painter Vasco Fernandes. Wine shapes daily life here: tasting rooms and small cellars sit among the old streets, and many producers in the surrounding hills welcome visitors to their estates.
