Artimino rises on a hill in the Carmignano wine district near Florence, its skyline marked by the many chimneys of Villa Medicea La Ferdinanda. Built in the late sixteenth century, the villa forms part of the Medici villas recognised by UNESCO. Below its terraces, the village's narrow lanes open onto olive groves and vineyards.
The surrounding countryside grows vines for Carmignano DOCG, one of Tuscany's oldest named wine zones, alongside olive trees pressed for local oil. Estates near the village open their cellars for tastings, and the village's Etruscan Archaeological Museum holds finds attesting to settlement long before the Medici arrived.
Stone farmhouses and cypress-lined drives mark the countryside between Artimino and Carmignano. Views from the village reach across vineyards toward the Arno valley, changing with the seasons as vines and olive trees mark the turn of the year.
