Menfi sits on Sicily's southwestern coast, where vineyards run down almost to the Mediterranean. The surrounding countryside is known for crisp white wines alongside the deeper reds of Nero d'Avola, with farming still a major part of the local economy. Below the town, the coast opens into long stretches of sandy beach. Inland, Menfi keeps a working, unpolished character, built around a central piazza, with streets that serve the surrounding farms as much as visitors. Along the coast to the west, the Greek ruins of Selinunte rise above the sea, and the land between the two towns is given over largely to vines. Menfi works as a base for tasting the region's wines close to where they are made, with many producers open for visits directly among their vineyards.
