Gabiano sits in the Monferrato hills of Piedmont, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. The village gathers around its castle, Castello di Gabiano, which has a long history of wine production and wide views over the valley below. Small agriturismo farms line the roads out of the centre, many of them family-run. They press their own olive oil and bottle Barbera and Grignolino, serving home-cooked Piedmontese meals alongside. Narrow lanes thread past stone houses, opening onto terraces where vines run down the slope in neat rows. The local economy still turns on the harvest: autumn brings grape picking and pressing, while spring and early summer show the hills at their greenest. Gabiano is a working agricultural village where wine and olive oil are made as they have been for generations, set among the hills and vineyards of Monferrato.
