Kirchahorn is a small village in the Ahorntal community, tucked into one of the narrow valleys of Franconian Switzerland in Upper Bavaria, a landscape of limestone crags, forested gorges and quiet farmsteads. The village is dominated by Burg Rabenstein, a medieval castle perched above the valley that now operates as a hotel and heritage site within a 150-acre natural estate. The castle grounds include a limestone cave (Rabensteinerhöhle), regular falconry demonstrations, a traditional Franconian restaurant and a beer garden. The surrounding Ahorntal valley is excellent walking and cycling country, and the Wiesent river nearby is popular for rafting. The area sits within a larger landscape of caves, castle ruins and village breweries that defines Franconian Switzerland.
