Rognes.

Rognes sits among limestone outcrops and rolling vineyards in the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence wine area. The village grew up around its quarries, and the pale local stone shaped many of the farmhouses and the old church still standing on its narrow streets. Vines cover much of the surrounding land, producing the reds, whites, and rosés that carry the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence name, and several family-run estates open their cellars for tastings through the growing season. Olive groves fill the gaps between vineyard rows, feeding small presses that still run each autumn.

The weekly market draws in produce from nearby farms — tomatoes, melons, cheese, and bread from the bakeries around the main square. Limestone ridges above the village carry marked trails through scrubland and pine, with views back over the vineyards and the rooftops below. September's grape harvest fills the cellars and cafés with the smell of fermenting wine, while spring brings wildflowers to the hillsides and a calmer pace to the streets.
