Sigogne sits among vineyards in the Grande Champagne cru of the Cognac region, where chalky soil gives the local Ugni Blanc grapes their character. The village is small, built from the pale limestone typical of Charente. Around it, rows of vines spread across gently rolling ground, feeding the copper pot stills of family-run distilleries that have worked the same estates for generations. Cognac production follows the rhythm of the seasons: grapes ripen through late summer, harvest comes in September, and the resulting wine is distilled through the cooler months into the following spring. Many estates open their cellars, where casks of aging spirit rest in oak, slowly darkening and taking on flavor over the years. Beyond the vines, the countryside stays quiet, marked by stone farmhouses and rows of poplars along the field edges. Sigogne shares this land with neighboring villages that together make up the Grande Champagne appellation, one of the most valued zones for cognac in the region.
