Scherwiller sits on the Alsace Wine Route, where the Vosges Mountains meet the Rhine plain. Vineyards surround the village, producing Riesling and Pinot Blanc under a climate shaped by the mountains' rain shadow. Two ruined castles, Ortenbourg and Ramstein, stand on a wooded hill above the rooftops, remnants of medieval fortifications that once watched over the valley below.

The village keeps its Alsatian character, with half-timbered houses along quiet streets and a church tower marking the centre. Family-run wineries open their doors for tastings, many still working plots their families have tended for generations. Wine sets the rhythm of local life: pruning in winter, blossom in spring, and a harvest that fills the village with activity each autumn.

Paths climb from the village into the vineyards and up toward the castle ruins, giving views across the wine country to the Rhine plain. Scherwiller shares its soil and grape varieties with neighbours along the Wine Route such as Dambach-la-Ville and Ribeauvillé, but keeps a smaller, more residential feel of its own.
