Stari Grad is one of Europe's oldest towns, founded by ancient Greeks in 384 BC on Hvar island. Unlike the glamorous Hvar town, Stari Grad maintains a quieter, more authentic character. The town sits at the end of a deep bay, with narrow streets lined with stone houses opening onto a charming harbor. The surrounding plain, called Ager, is a UNESCO World Heritage site – an agricultural landscape with ancient Greek field divisions still in use. Visitors can explore history, swim from pebble beaches, cycle through vineyards and lavender fields, and enjoy fresh seafood and local wines in traditional konobas.
