Rüdesheim am Rhein is one of the most visited wine towns in Germany, sitting at the point where the Rhine enters the spectacular gorge between the Rheingau and the Mittelrhein. The town's Drosselgasse, a narrow lane of wine taverns, draws visitors from across Europe, but behind the bustle lies genuine depth. The Brömserburg, one of the oldest stone castles on the Rhine, houses the Rheingau Wine Museum with a collection tracing 1,000 years of viticulture. The Niederwald Monument, a monumental Germania statue above the town, is reached by cable car and offers sweeping views over the Rhine and the vineyards of the Rheingau. Rüdesheim wines, particularly Riesling, are among the finest in the region, and several family estates offer tastings.
